2023 Interior Design Trends

New Year, new design trends! We're discussing some of our favorite interior design trends for 2023 and a few ways that you can easily incorporate them into your own living space!

1. Bold colors: Goodbye bland! Bold colors are here in a BIG way. Popular choices include retro earth tones & other 70's inspired shades. But really, any statement-making color is in.

2. Curved lines: Cool shapes are the hottest trend. Curves have become increasingly popular in modern design. Curves are often associated with a sense of comfort and relaxation, as they tend to be softer and more organic than straight lines. Curved chairs, coffee tables, sofas and accessories are ways you can bring unique shapes to your space.

3. Browns: Grey is gone! Rich, warm colors are trending and this includes pretty much all shades of brown. Why brown? The color perfectly encapsulates both the 1970's retro trend and the interest in all things neutral. After years and years consisting mostly of shades of grey, we are loving this trend. Organic finishes will make a room feel warm and inviting. This could be just what you need to take your space to the next-level!

4. Fun textures: Embracing layers of texture in 2023. As we continue to gravitate towards cozier spaces, textures are playing a big part in setting the scene. Materials such as fur and boucle are going to remain popular this year, as well as terracotta, limewash walls, pine wood & more! Many of these textures are heavily inspired by nature.

5. Sustainable design: Green is gorgeous! Eco-friendly and sustainable furniture continues to be of utmost importance in many areas of life - this includes interior design. Ruby & Company is proud of our partnership with Rowe Furniture and their commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing processes and sustainable product development. Our designers can also help you select furniture that has been made with future generations in mind.

6. Biophilic design: Create a peaceful, natural environment. In order to create a space that feels more connected to the natural world, Biophilic design is being heavily incorporated into interior design. Biophilic design is an interior design trend that incorporates elements of natural into the built environment in order to create a more healthy and harmonious space for people to live and work in, reduce stress, and promote well-being. This trend can include the use of natural materials, such as wood and stone, as well as the incorporation of greenery, and the use of natural light.

7. Multi-functional spaces: Get creative with your space. For the last several years, multi-functional spaces have become increasingly important. While some head back to the office or school, we still realize the benefits of having a space that fits more of our needs. The key to designing a successful multi-functional space is to think creatively and make use of versatile, adaptable elements that can be easily changed to suit different needs. Maybe your living room needs to double as a home office or your guest room is also your home gym. The possibilities are endless. Some helpful tips for creating a multi-functional space would be to find storage solutions or items that could be used as a coffee table, seating, storage and more!

8. Letting your personality shine: As always, Ruby & Company believes that your home should be a reflection of you, your personality and your lifestyle. Luckily, we are seeing personality-driven decor become a "trend" as people shift from neutral, minimalistic spaces to warm and inviting settings. You can't go wrong when you make your home special for you and your loved ones.

How To Make Your Home A Reflection Of You

Interior design trends come and go. Some trends stick around for awhile and some trends even pop back up years later. But at Ruby & Company, we believe the best design is one that is a direct reflection of you.

There are many simples and attainable ways to create a space that truly represents who you are and makes you feel comfortable and happy. Making your home a reflection of yourself can be a fun and rewarding process. We asked out designers for their best tips to help guide you:

1. Start with a clean slate: Before you begin decorating, make sure to declutter and organize your space. This will give you a better idea of what you have to work with and make it easier to make decisions about what to keep, what to store, and what to get rid of.

2. Find inspiration: Look for images that reflect your personal design style and go from there-don't force yourself to like a certain style just because it is "trendy"

3. Choose a color palette: Pick a color scheme that you love and that make you feel good. This will be the foundation of your decor and will help tie everything together

4. Incorporate personal items: Display items that have sentimental value or hold special meaning to you. This could be anything from family photos to antique furniture that's been passed down to you

5. Show off your style: Whether you prefer a modern, minimalist aesthetic or a more traditional, cozy look, use furniture, decor, and accessories to express your personal style

6. Add plants: Not only do plants add visual interest and beauty to a space, but they also have been proven to improve air quality, boost mood and reduce stress

7. Make it functional: Your home should be a reflection of your lifestyle and needs. Make sure to choose furniture, decor and layout that are functional and will make your day-to-day life easier

8. Make it comfortable: Your home should be a place where you can relax and feel comfortable. Incorporate soft textures, cozy blankets, and comfortable seating to make your space as inviting as possible

9. Ask for help: No one knows you like you do but it might actually be beneficial for you to get a second opinion from a professional interior designer. A skilled interior designer can help make your home beautiful and functional. At Ruby & Company, our designers are skilled at taking your vision, needs and wants into consideration and making something really special. We believe that you can't go wrong when you make your home special for you and your loved ones

Remember, making your home a reflection of yourself is a process and it may take some time to get everything just right. Multi-functional Spaces: How To Make The Best Use Of Your Home

In 2020, the need for mulit-functional spaces was at an all-time high. Many people worked from home, home-schooled, exercised at home, and so on! While most people have returned to offices, schools, gyms, etc. - we've come to expect more from our homes. Multi-functional rooms are the key to getting the most out of your space.

So what exactly is a multi-functional space? Mult-functional spaces in interior design refer to rooms or areas that serve more than one purpose. For example, a living room that also serves as a home office, a guest room that can be used as a home gym, or basement that doubles as a home theater. These spaces can be designed to seamlessly accommodate different functions and activities, often through the use of versatile furniture and decor.

One of the main benefits of multi-functional spaces is that they can help to save space in smaller homes or apartments. They can also make it easier to organize and declutter a home, as you can use the same space for multiple purposes rather than having separate rooms for each function.

There are several ways to design a multi-functional space, depending on the specific needs and preferences of the user. Some common elements of these spaces include:

1. Adjustable or transformable furniture: Pieces that can be easily moved or rearranged to accommodate different activities, such as tables that fold down or chairs that can be stored when not in use. Bar carts for example create ample storage and can even be used as a makeshift workspace.

2. Built in storage: Cabinets, shelves, and other storage solutions that can be used to keep the space organized and clutter-free. Entertainment centers can be used in dining spaces, living rooms, entryways- the possibilities are endless!

3. Flexible lighting: Adjustable or dimmable lights that can be used for different activities and moods.

4. Multi-purpose decor: Decorative items that can be used in different ways, such as throw pillows that can be used as seating, or floor cushions that can be used as extra seating or a makeshift coffee table.

Overall, the key to designing a successful multi-functional space is to think creatively and make use of versatile, adaptable elements that can be easily changed to suit different needs.

The Ruby & Company designers are experienced in helping our clients make the best possible use of their homes.
